American Railway Post Office (RPO) Cars
Years ago The Railway Post Office (RPO) cars were the main trains that carried office supplies, mail, and other documents.
These were specialized cars that were for the purpose of carrying the items to the various cities and towns. They were like mobile post-offices that sorted and distributed the mail while the train was in motion.
RPO cars were attached to the passenger trains and played a very important part in the postal system of the mid-19th century until the mid-20th century. They had the mail picked up and dropped off at various stops, without the train needing to halt.
It made the mailing system very efficient! (Ideas From CoPilot)
